Author Spotlight: Interview with author M. York

TJ: Hello! Welcome to Author Spotlight where both new and veteran authors share a little about themselves and their work. Today we have M. York. Let’s get into it. Care to tell readers us about yourself?

M. York: Hey! I’m M. York. I was born in Tyler, Texas and I now live, with my wonderful husband, in the Great Frozen North of Northern Alberta. We have no pets yet, but I do intend to add a couple once we move later this year.

TJ:  What inspired you to become a writer?

M.Y.: I’m not sure. I constantly had stories running in my mind, ever since I can remember. I think it’s just part of me that I’ve never been willing to ignore.

T.J.:  If you could meet any person dead or alive, who would it be and why?

This is not going to be any watershed moment, but I wish I could sit and talk with my maternal grandfather again. I wish I’d known him better. I feel I missed out on a lot of stories and family history.

T.J: Now, is my favorite part of the interview, hearing all about your work. Can you tell readers about Derelict Paradise?

M.Y.: Your favorite and my most dreaded. I’m one of those strange people who wants to share my imaginings with the world but is utterly terrified of anyone reading them. Then, predictably, I get upset if no one reads them, haha.

For Derelict Paradise, it’s inspired by an experience and portion of my life that still wakes me up at night, scares me, but it’s something I want to explore and share. It started out as just a strange science fiction book, but, as with everything I’ve written thus far (see: Gerhardt Detective Agency), horror seeped in as I wrote.

My main character is one I came up with years ago and, though she’s changed significantly, I hope other people love her as much as I do.

Derelict Paradise is currently scheduled to come out on June 22nd, but I have a trilogy out in a different universe as well as six books of a fantasy detective series. You can find all of them on my website.

TJ: Thank you for visiting my blog. Hope to have you back again!

Yeah! It was a pleasure. I’ll let you know when the next book comes out.
