TJ: Hello! Welcome to Author Spotlight where both new and veteran authors share a little about themselves and their work. Today we have Paranormal Mafia Romance author Jennifer Porter. Let’s get into it. Care to tell readers about yourself?
JP: Sure! Born & raised in the state of Maine, I’m an introverted and sometimes shy 34 year old who rarely turns down a cup of coffee.
Living here in Maine, I love the outdoors. I grew up with an admiration for nature’s beauty, and will always soak up the chance to walk one of this state’s many trails.
Growing up, I got a small taste for writing after submitting my thoughts on local issues to the Portland Press Herald newspaper. My parents insisted on framing each one.
For the most part, I’m fairly laid back and would rather stay home and either work or read or just spend time with my husband. I’m rather boring, actually. Maybe you can even say dull, haha!
Dark romance and spice are my go-to for books. The darker and spicier, the better! I do also tend to enjoy reading stories about dangerous yet sexy mobsters. Mafia bad-boys never go out of style.
TJ: What inspired you to become a writer?
JP: A lot of authors talk about other authors being their inspiration, but I feel like the odd one out here, because only after discovering and creating an account on Wattpad.com, did I develop the fuel and passion for trying out writing. Meeting and interacting with other Wattpad users made me comfortable with testing the waters, and here I am today, close to receiving my formatted novel.
Something else; in elementary school, one of my teachers wrote as a comment on my report card that they believed I’d one day write a book. I apologize for being unable to remember the grade and which teacher, but that’s something that’s stuck with me up until today. My late mother was another supporter of my dream and constantly told me I could do it, that she had faith in me. Before losing her this past December, I made her a promise to publish my book no matter what it takes. With the help, love, and support of my husband and sister, I saw this through.
Being a published author has always been a dream that I never expected to accomplish, but now it has become quite an amazing reality. Keeping my promise to my late mother was my biggest motivator, and I’m determined to continue making her proud.
T.J.: If you could meet any person dead or alive, who would it be and why?
JP: Hmm… I’d love to meet one of my favorite authors, Stephen King. I just want to shake his hand and thank him for so many great stories.
As for someone who’s passed on, it’d have to be Michael Jackson. I’m a big fan and was devastated when he died. He was such a beautiful soul.
T.J: Now, is my favorite part of the interview, hearing all about your work. Can you tell readers about The Past That Haunts?
JP: The Past That Haunts is an adult paranormal mafia romance. It centers around 23 year old Lilith Wardman, a New York native whose life is flipped on its head without notice. Lilith faces dark truths with the help of a man named Dominic Rosini – a mobster who’s forced to face his own truths as he assists in keeping Lilith safe. Did I mention Dominic is a vampire? So is the family he was introduced & raised into.
