Author Spotlight: Van D. Vicious author of Roses Wild (A Kindle Vella Series)

Roses Wild

TJ: Hello! Welcome to Author Spotlight where both new and veteran authors share a little about themselves and their work. Today we have speculative fiction author Van D Vicious. Let’s get into it. Care to tell readers us about yourself, Van?

Van:

Hi, hello. This week I am three cryptids in a trench coat. Next week, I predict I’ll be the sound of crows in a dead wood. I enjoy very human things like coffee and Battlestar Galactica. My favorite dinosaur is a pterodactyl, and I can do a period accurate screech if you’re interested in hearing it.

TJ (after recuperating from belly laughs) : Someday, if I meet you in real life, I will take you up on that offer.  What inspired you to become a writer?

Van:

I’m not entirely sure there was ever a moment of true inspiration. Rather, learning to read kind of opened that “holy dooks, Batman; I can also MAKE stories” door, and I’ve been unable to close it ever since.

T.J.:  If you could meet any person dead or alive, who would it be and why?

Van:

I think I would enjoy meeting Anaïs Nin. She was one of few women who openly wrote erotica while it was still taboo. I just find her fascinating and think she’d be a great coffee date.

T.J: Now, is my favorite part of the interview, hearing all about your work. Can you tell readers about Roses Wild series?

Van:

Heck yeah. So I’ve been reading UF, PNR, and PWF for years, but I find there isn’t a lot set in the south. Kind of an under-tapped well. At any rate, I grew up next to mushroom rings and questionable woods, where coyotes and Bible Belt preachers compete to howl the loudest. It just inspired this big ‘what if’.

Roses Wild is that: what if Arkansas had witches, werewolves, vamps, and fae running amok? It’s the story of Rose Carson, a cursed witch navigating life through poverty and loss. She’s not the usual heroine, but sometimes even the lowest of the low can rise to the occasion.

The story’s up on Vella right now, and it updates every two weeks.

TJ: I’m looking forward to reading it! Thank you for visiting my blog. Hope to have you back again!

Van:

Always a pleasure to sit down with a fellow author and book nerd.
