Normally on Tuesdays, I lift weights, but I was having car trouble so had to rent a car while mine received repairs. It’s pouring rain and visibility is low. The rental placed moved and the nice lady in the business where the rental place used to be stared at us blankly and said, ‘E******** hasn’t been here for six months.” Then she gave us that glib smile that says, okay get the f*** out so I can get on with my day. A pretty talented feat since she was wearing a mask. We weren’t getting any information from her so we did a little digging and found the new address. That took up a good chunk of my morning.
When I returned, I had to help one of my kiddos with their school work. I didn’t get to sit down to write until about 10:30 am Pacific. I start my mornings around six. Starting midmorning was annoyingly late for me when I’m not doing NaNoWriMo. Having a pseudo-deadline pending doubled my irritation. But, I got to vent to my virtual write-in group and I got in 353 words in before the fiasco. By the time I did sit down to write, I felt good.
I sat at the keyboard for a bit. I knew where I wanted to go with the story because I work with an outline. I simply didn’t like something my character did. I wondered if readers would find it out of character. I spiraled a bit with this train of thought, coming out of it with some corned beef hash delivered from a local diner. The car experience might have been less irritating if I’d had something in my gut other than two giant cups of coffee to eat.
By the time I get to really buckle down, it was about 11am. That’s when my cousin-in-law called. She’s a first time voter and wanted the skinny on how to do everything. She said she’d called her most politically outspoken relative, you’re truly. I gave her a rundown and helped her check her registration status.
It’s now 1:30pm on the west coast, I’ve written 1,057 words bringing my total to 6129. I’m tired from my early morning exploits and have decided to call it a writing day.
Hope you are all doing well. Happy writing!
