On Current Events

Gentle Reader,

It's no secret that I've dated since I split with my ex. Like many others reassembling their lives mid-life, the old ways of meeting people have disappeared. I have suffered the deplorable depths of dating app hell--I'm sure a book will come out of it at some point. A certain app asked a myriad of compatibility questions. One of these questions was would you like to live in interesting times or peaceful times and why? (Or something to that effect)

I'd love to go back in a time machine and change my answer to that question. Why? Because I had answered interesting, and my reasoning had been that I'd rather see change come than live in a stagnant state.

That was pre 2020.

I'm not saying that I manifested this sort of dystopian technocracy, but rather that I would like my personal timeline to no be wrought with this level of strife.

However, a theme within my books has always been that in order for there to be progress, not only does an individual have to change but an entire society. We are in interesting times, but we might live long enough to see what is on the other side, I truly believe that the pendulum will swing back to an era of great peace and prosperity.

Now, I'm no Oracle--I'll leave prophecies to my character Lydia. That has how the cyclic nature of human history has gone thus far and will again.

Until then, we must live through these times. Take care of yourselves, your (chosen) family, and your community.

Best,

T.J. Deschamps
